Why average humans in their late 20's to late 30's are shying away from putting aside a portion of their income on a regular mode into an investment vehicle? As a matter of fact, based on my personal findings even humans in their late 40's distance themselves from practising the habit of regularly putting aside savings now for future benefit. From my own experience of socializing with friends and acquaintances i did discover some reasons for them to behave in such a way. I have listed some of them below and i would like you to read it slowly and see if you can relate any one of it with of your own.
- Prefer instant gratification. Like to enjoy now as life is short.
- Still have a long time for saving for future, will start later.
- Insufficient money to set aside.
- Savings from health Insurance proceed will take care of it.
- Confident that the Employment Providence Fund (EPF) money will cover future expenses.
- Confident that will win a lottery ticket and that will cover my future cost of living.
- Investment products that are available too risky and not suitable.
- Comfortable to put all money in a Fixed Deposit account as the principal money is protected.
So, how? Does your reason for not investing now fall into any one of the above?
If your answer is "yes" to most of it, don't worry and be calm! You are not alone. A big number of people out there shares your feeling.
Knowledge is Power, so empower yourself! I suggest you to start cultivating the habit of reading financial or investment related books to expose yourself to the whole world of investment.
