There is a growing trend among most small and medium enterprises (SME) industries in any part of the world to come to an understanding of how vital is to develop and implement Production Schedule System.
A Production Schedule System (PSS), as the name itself suggests, is a SYSTEM that needs coordination of allocation of resources to fulfill the ultimate objective of committing to stated delivery date of goods up to the customer's doorstep. In doing so, schedulers need to strictly follow the principles that make the schedule efficient and effective. The 3 principles are:
- Each individual production processess must be TIME measured. That means a list of process duration or commonly known as STANDARD TIME must be created and used as the foundation in scheduling.
- A workload plan for each is then needed to be created. This plan will demonstrate the capacity usage by accordance of delivery date and of course the inventory too. The development of work load plan is subjected to total sum of forecast demand and actual demand of goods from customers. Having said that, the sales team should discuss with schedulers on prioritizing the production processess based on demand requirement prior to finalizing the sales quotation. Failing to do so, the production schedule loses its functionability.
- The final principle is to establish the workload prioritizing schedule on a Gantt chart. Some may use MS Project software and the rest may just want to use the MS excell programme. Whatever software that you decided to use, it must serve us and the beneficiaries of the plan that been scheduled.
